First Aid Kits For Dogs

Recently a client asked about making a first aid kit for his dog while on a camping trip. Here some items to include. All can be found in a pharmacy or pet store.

  • tick remover
  • thermometer
  • nail trimmer and styptic
  • Q tips
  • gauze pads
  • gauze roll – can be used to tie the mouth as a muzzle if needed
  • conforming bandage
  • scissors
  • alcohol pads
  • hydrogen peroxide
  • antibiotic ointment
  • hydrocortisone cream
  • eye wash
  • benedryl – the dose is 1 milligram (mg) per pound twice daily, so a 50 pound dog would get 50 mg
  • buffered aspirin – the dose is 1 adult aspirin per 50 lbs. twice daily or 1 baby aspirin per 10 lbs. twice daily. DO NOT USE ASPIRIN IN CATS.
