Two months ago Animal Control brought in a chicken. A man in Wayne noticed that a trash bag had been thrown onto his front lawn a few days before, and something moved when he picked it up. Indeed, it contained a young female chicken, festooned in ribbons. She was bruised, hungry and thirsty but otherwise OK. I was confused; was this an odd gift or had someone tried to float the chicken by tying balloons to it? Lying in bed, it literally dawned on me two days later. She had been presented to some local literary talent as a Pullet Surprise.
