Clinic Stories

Both dogs had been patients since they were young. Maggie was older and began a long decline. Ultimately she developed a swelling in her neck which curbed her appetite and restricted her breathing. Suffering, her owners made the painful decision to put her to sleep. They arrived with Maggie and Sam, explaining that Sam would not leave her side. More than not leaving her he was trembling, shaking so violently that he was barely able to stand. When Maggie was placed on the table, Sam jumped up and laid next to her. When he jumped up a second time we decided to let him stay to comfort Maggie in her final moment. Maggie was euthanized with Sam by her side. When she took her last breath, Sam stopped shaking and a visible calm came over him, relieved that she was no longer in distress.
